Monika Weiss is an internationally recognized interdisciplinary artist and composer whose work bridges contemporary art and experimental music composition. Originally trained as a pianist in Warsaw, Poland, her work is transdisciplinary in nature. Weiss’s practice encompasses large-scale sonic environments, projects in public space, vocal cycles, and performative drawings. Over the span of her career, her work has incorporated and often focused on sound. In recent years, Weiss has created numerous music compositions and sound art works, using acoustic, vocal lamentation as a tool to investigate public memory and historical trauma from an ecofeminist position.

Based in New York, Weiss has developed a multi-decade trajectory that treats musical architecture and visual installation as a unified sensory experience. Her sound compositions, vocal cantos, and electroacoustic works engage with physical space, responding to events, places, and myths, often incorporating archives and existing texts. Her sonic and visual environments invite embodied public participation, transforming traditional exhibition spaces and outdoor locations into sites of shared resonance.

Weiss’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions, international museum collections, and performances worldwide, including the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko, the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, and The Drawing Center, with recent premieres at venues like the Goethe-Institut New York. She holds a Professorship at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts and is Affiliate Professor of Performing Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

Monika Weiss jest uznaną międzynarodowo interdyscyplinarną artystką i kompozytorką, której twórczość łączy sztukę współczesną z eksperymentalną kompozycją muzyczną. Wykształcona pierwotnie jako pianistka w Warszawie, tworzy prace o charakterze transdyscyplinarnym. Jej praktyka artystyczna obejmuje wielkoskalowe środowiska dźwiękowe, projekty w przestrzeni publicznej, cykle wokalne oraz rysunki performatywne. Na przestrzeni kariery, twórczość Weiss niezmiennie integrowała, i często koncentrowała się na dźwięku. W ciągu ostatnich lat Weiss stworzyła liczne kompozycje muzyczne i prace dźwiękowe, wykorzystując lament śpiewany, akustyczny jako narzędzie do badania pamięci publicznej i traumy historycznej z pozycji ekofeministycznej.
