Monika Weiss is a transdisciplinary artist and composer who lives and works in New York. Her work has been shown extensively internationally.

Institutional surveys, solo projects, individual exhibitions and permanent sound installations have been realized at the Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej Zamek Ujazdowski, Warsaw (2010); Centrum Rzeźby Polskiej in Orońsko (2021 and 2024–); Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos, Santiago de Chile (2012–2013); Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum, Miami (2014); Museu da Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto, Portugal (2019); Laumeier Sculpture Park, St. Louis (2024–2025); Lehman College Art Gallery, New York (2005); Diapason Gallery for Sound and Media, New York (2002); Remy Toledo Gallery, New York (with Carolee Schneemann, 2004) and Galerie Samuel Lallouz, Montreal (2005, 2008 and 2013).

The artist has realized public site-responsive projects and large-scale participatory performances internationally, including the World Financial Center Winter Garden, New York (across from Ground Zero, 2006); Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), Athens (2016); Gruenberg (formerly Germany, today Zielona Góra, Poland, 2012); and the upcoming long-term public monument-antimonument Nirbhaya at Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza near the United Nations in New York (2027–2028). Awards include The Assembly State of New York 2026 Woman of Distinction (73rd District), New York Foundation for the Arts Interdisciplinary Award (2009) and New York State Council on the Arts Individual Artist Award (2023).

Her sound works, multi-channel video projections, audio releases, large-scale drawings and films have been featured internationally in programs at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2021); Goethe-Institut New York (2026); A.I.R. Gallery, New York (2022); WhiteBox, New York (2022, 2024, 2026); Sanskriti Foundation, New Delhi (2015); Streaming Museum (2006, 2012, 2017 and 2026); Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), Miami (2006, 2008); Kunsthaus Dresden, Germany (2006, 2018); Frauenmuseum, Bonn (2008); North Dakota Museum of Art, Grand Forks (2006); Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2003); and Stephen and Peter Sachs Museum, Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis (2024). In 2022 Infrequent Seams released Weiss' electronic and vocal music album Metamorphosis | Nirbhaya and in 2026 her Medusa: Malleus + Lethe vocal, piano, percussion and electronic music was released on BatterrieRecords.

Monika Weiss' artist archives are permanently housed at the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution (Julia P. Herzberg papers) in Washington, D.C. and at the Centrum Rzeźby Polskiej in Orońsko. Weiss was an Artist in Residence at Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, NY (2005, 2009, 2017), BRIC, Brooklyn (2017), Harvestworks, New York (2018), Experimental Intermedia Foundation, New York (2001–2005), Laumeier Sculpture Park, St. Louis (2024) and Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej Zamek Ujazdowski, Warsaw (2009). Since 2011 the artist holds a professorship at Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis.
