The title Arkhe (Greek: ἀρχή) evokes the archaic, the beginning, and the origins of being. In this immersive sound work Monika Weiss continues her exploration of the trope of Lament, a cross-cultural form of music and poetry used here to evoke a ritual of shared witness. The work centers on the female voice as a site of memory, across time and territory. Arkhe (2024) features music for two sopranos recorded in isolation to capture the raw resonance of solitude in their voices.

Originally commissioned by Laumeier Sculpture Park the artist wrote and recorded Arkhe during her artist residency at Laumeier in 2024. As the 6th and last movement of Metamorphosis sound cycle, Arkhe appears in Weiss’ Metamorphosis (Sound Sculpture) which was on view at Laumeier in 2024-2025, and continues to be heard in Metamorphosis-Przemiana, a permanent sound sculpture acquired into the outdoor collection of the Centre for Polish Sculpture in Orońsko in 2024-. In 2026 Streaming Museum premiered Arkhe-The Lost Canto, a multi-disciplinary work by Weiss which includes Arkhe music together with The Lost Canto, a moving image work the artist filmed on the third highest mountain in the world.

Tytuł *Arkhe* (z gr. ἀρχή) przywołuje to, co archaiczne, a także sam początek i źródła bytu. W tej immersyjnej pracy dźwiękowej Monika Weiss kontynuuje zgłębianie motywu lamentu – międzykulturowej formy muzycznej i poetyckiej, służącej tu do stworzenia przestrzeni rytuału i obecności. Utwór koncentruje się na kobiecym głosie jako przestrzeni pamięci, wykraczającej poza ramy czasu i terytorium. Kompozycja *Arkhe* (2024) włącza partie dwóch sopranów; zostały one zarejestrowane w izolacji, aby uchwycić surowe brzmienie samotności obecne w głosach śpiewaczek.

Utwór powstał na zaproszenie Laumeier Sculpture Park; artystka skomponowała i nagrała *Arkhe* w trakcie swojej rezydencji artystycznej w tym parku w 2024 roku. Jako szósta i ostatnia część cyklu dźwiękowego *Metamorphosis*, *Arkhe* stanowi element instalacji *Metamorphosis (Sound Sculpture)*, prezentowanej w Laumeier w latach 2024–2025, a także jest częścią *Metamorphosis-Przemiana* – stałej rzeźby dźwiękowej włączonej w 2024 roku do kolekcji plenerowej Centrum Rzeźby Polskiej w Orońsku. W 2026 roku Streaming Museum zaprezentowało premierę *Arkhe-The Lost Canto* – multidyscyplinarnego dzieła Moniki Weiss, łączącego muzykę z *Arkhe* oraz *The Lost Canto*, filmu nakręconego przez artystkę na trzeciej pod względem wysokości górze świata.
