Metamorphosis-Nirbhaya (2021-2022) by artist and composer Monika Weiss is a cycle of five sound movements: Kataigis, Drzewo Życia, Fonî, Keîmai, and Metá . The first four movements are based on the artist’s acoustic piano improvisations, which she later transformed into layers of sound creating an ambisonic sound environment. She wrote the fifth movement eight vocalists who were recorded individually and later merged together to create microtonal relationships.

The work is inspired by the story of Daphne, the mythological nymph who escaped violence by becoming a tree. The artist says: “the music evokes the moment in which Daphne’s skin hardens into a tree bark, her voice becomes whispering leaves. The escape from the violence is marked by her death but also by reincarnation into a new life form.”

Metamorphosis – Nirbhaya (2021–2022) autorstwa artystki i kompozytorki Moniki Weiss to cykl pięciu części muzycznych: *Kataigis*, *Drzewo Życia*, *Fonî*, *Keîmai* oraz *Metá*. Cztery pierwsze części powstały na bazie improwizacji artystki na fortepianie akustycznym; materiał ten został następnie przekształcony w warstwy dźwiękowe tworzące środowisko dźwiękowe typu ambisonicznego. Piątą część kompozytorka napisała dla ośmiu wokalistów, których partie nagrała indywidualnie, a następnie połączyła, tworząc relacje mikrotonowe.

Utwór inspirowany jest historią Dafne – mitologicznej nimfy, która uciekła przed przemocą, zmieniając się w drzewo. Artystka mówi: „Muzyka przywołuje moment, w którym skóra Dafne twardnieje, zmieniając się w korę drzewa, a jej głos staje się szelestem liści. Ucieczka przed przemocą naznaczona jest śmiercią, ale jest także reinkarnacją w nową formę życia”.
