diaspeirō is a musical and sound work that artist and composer Monika Weiss wrote in response to the inflections and emotions heard in the voice of an anonymous Ecuadorian woman migrant, who, over thirty years ago, recorded her message while in Hamburg, Weiss wrote a song without words as form of response to the audio recording, arriving from the past in a language unknown to the artist. Throughout the piece we hear singing voice of the soprano and the Ecuadorian woman's original voice, engaged in a musical dialogue. diaspeirō (in ancient Greek, “I scatter”) honors the feelings of nostalgia, displacement, and solitude that the artist heard in the voice of that woman, that can be universally understood, beyond any language.

In 2024 this work was commissioned for the project "Another Postcard Here and There New York", ArtScapes, WhiteBox and curated by Yohanna M Roa in collaboration with AMAME Archive, Audiovisual Memory Archive of Ecuadorian Migration) Poblanos, New York Voices Archive.

„diaspeirō” to utwór muzyczno-dźwiękowy stworzony przez artystkę i kompozytorkę Monikę Weiss w odpowiedzi na modulacje i emocje słyszalne w głosie anonimowej migrantki z Ekwadoru, która ponad trzydzieści lat temu nagrała swoją wiadomość podczas pobytu w Hamburgu. Weiss skomponowała utwór bez słów jako formę odpowiedzi na to nagranie – przekaz docierający z przeszłości w języku nieznanym artystce.

W utworze słyszymy śpiew sopranistki oraz oryginalny głos Ekwadorki, prowadzące ze sobą muzyczny dialog. Tytuł „diaspeirō” (co w starożytnej grece oznacza „rozsiewam” lub „rozpraszam”) stanowi hołd dla uczuć nostalgii, wykorzenienia i samotności, które artystka wyczuła w głosie owej kobiety – emocji zrozumiałych uniwersalnie, ponad barierami językowymi.

W 2024 roku utwór ten powstał na zamówienie w ramach projektu „Another Postcard Here and There New York” (organizowanego przez ArtScapes i WhiteBox), kuratorka Yohanna M. Roa we współpracy z AMAME Archive (Archiwum Pamięci Audiowizualnej Migracji Ekwadorskiej), Poblanos i New York Voices Archive.
